With summer coming to an end and fall around the corner, I feel obliged to herald the success of La Femme’s first playwriting festival – Women in Agency – which ran from August 3 to August 17. With full houses and standing ovations, the second week was even more spectacular than the first. The Festival, which featured the work of Mentor Playwright Jenny Lyn Bader, literally took my breath away as did the extraordinary support of board members Robert Dohmen and Austin Pendleton. 

 

Inspired by the work of the Festival, we at La Femme are developing an upcoming season that aptly fits our mission of empowering the female voice. As always, thanks so much for your support, and I will be back in touch soon with an exciting update!

A ritual play for black girls/women to help heal from intimate | partner violence, a loss of girlhood, and the death of our friends.

Takes place at the Casa Verde in 1940s Mexico, with a cast of characters who remind us that no matter the time or place we are all wrestling with the same demons.

Tells the story of four women seeking to find their purpose in St. Louis during the Great Depression.
